The rich scent of roasting coffee beans, welcoming atmosphere and friendly fellowship greeted officials with the ShippensburgArea Chamber of Commerce and Shippensburg Township Monday as they celebrate the opening of the Walnut Bottom Road Starbucks.
Store Manager Brandi Mixell and District Manager Jenna Robinson welcomed township supervisors Steve Oldt and Marc Rideout; chamber representatives Scott Brown, Wendy Forrester, Vicky Simmel and Melinda Thompson; and Karen Martin, regional property manager with Pomegranate Real Estate, on a dreary, rainy afternoon—the perfect day to enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a croissant or pastry.
The store opened in the Shippensburg Shopping Center along Walnut Bottom Road (by Little Caesar’s Pizza and Planet Fitness) three weeks ago. Site development plans were approved by the township in March, and the building was erected over the summer.
“We’ve had a really successful three weeks,” Mixell said. “The community likes that we are here. They have been very welcoming, and it’s been great so far!”
Mixell noted that Starbucks’ mission is to “inspire and nurture the human spirit one cup, one person and one neighborhood at a time.”
She added that is how she and her team are with the local community.
“I want this store to fell like home to everyone who comes here,” she said noting she is planning to do different events like Coffee with a Cop or Firefighter and storytime with children and their parents.
Starbucks currently is in full swing for the holiday season, offering festive red and green tumblers, bags of holiday blend coffee and other items for the coffee lovers on your list. Stop in and grab a warm Peppermint Mocha, Eggnog Latte, Peppermint Hot Chocolate, Expresso or one of the many brewed coffees.
Starbucks also offers a number of hot breakfast sandwiches to start your day off right, a lunch menu to get you through the afternoon and several items to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Martin said they are thrilled that Starbucks chose to build in the shopping center, which is managed by Pomegranate. “We’re thrilled to have them because we know the community is thrilled! They’re a great addition to the shopping center!” she exclaimed.
Robinson also noted their excitement for being in Shippensburg. “We pride ourselves in serving out communities and we look forward to serving Shippensburg.” She said.
Brown, president of the chamber, said the store is an amazing addition to the community.
“This helps to keep us current as a community,” he said. “As we look at state and national standard, this is what the current generation embraces. This will continue to propel us forward to work together, and build a community that’s a great place to live, work and play.”
